Outer Banks 2011: Day 4
Today feels like it was spent on the dunes all day. This morning we slept in a little and ate here at the hotel restaurant for an amazing price. Our original hang gliding lesson was scheduled yesterday but we had it moved to today so we could spend yesterday driving instead. Our lesson started at 11:30 where we watched a video and got a little "classroom" time to learn about how to fly. The dunes were very hot, which was to be expected considering the time, we ended up wearing socks because the sand was too hot to stand or walk on in our bare feet (silly me, forgot to bring any shoes besides flip-flops to the beach). After our long hot walk to the top of a dune where the gliders where "parked" and waiting around for the wind to pick up we ended up rescheduling for later. This afternoon at 5:00 we were able to resume our lessons. Anson and I got 6 flights each. The hang gliders were really fun to fly, though it took several trys to get the hang of not holding tight to the bar and running fast enough for a good take off. We had a wonderful instructor, Evan who was so encuraging despite our numberus crash landings and pathetic takoffs.
All in all we had a fantastic time. I'll let the photos tell the rest.
